Jonathan Thornburg is a Senior Research Engineer in RTI’s Discovery Science and Technology Division. He has extensive experience in studying aerosol physics and exposure assessment. He manages multiple programs investigating aerosol fate and transport in the environment for USEPA and DoD. Dr. Thornburg current projects have a focus on: ambient particulate matter (PM) exposure, particle movement in ambient and indoor environments, and exposures to naturally occurring asbestos. Dr. Thornburg has developed and patented novel instrumentation to sample and characterize PM and air toxics from mobile sources to determine their impact on personal exposure, and is advancing methods to characterize risks of black and brown carbon from biomass cookstoves. He holds a Ph.D. in Air Pollution Engineering (University of North Carolina).
